Alfred Gockel Biography

Alfred Gockel was born in 1952 in Lüdinghausen, in the North Rhine Westphalia of Germany. In 1973 he began his studies in the field of design at the Academy of Graphic Arts in Münster, where he completed his degree in 1977. In addition to his freelance activities as a designer and artist, he lectured in typography and graphic design at the academy in Münster.

Since 1981 Alfred Gockel has devoted his time and attention to his artwork in the fields of painting, sculpture and different techniques of graphic art and printing. In the year 1983 he established his own company, Avant Art, which distributes his work in over 50 different countries worldwide. The conversion of a mill purchased in 1988 serves as a center for graphic printing (silkscreen and etching) and has broadened his artistic scope.

In 1999, as a result of international recognition, Alfred Gockel consructed a larger studio, making it possible for him to expand into larger works. His undeniably unique style has caused an enormous demand from art collectors. Because of his participation in many important international exhibitions, live performances and social commitments, Alfred Gockel has become a self-accomplished and well recognized artist.
